Gas Nitrocarburizing & Oxidation
Gas ferritic nitrocarburizing (FNC) is a process that diffuses nitrogen and carbon into ferrous metals at sub-critical temperatures, typically between 525 °C and 600 °C. This method improves surface integrity by enhancing scuffing resistance, fatigue properties, and corrosion resistance.
Our precision advantage
Oxidation can be performed after nitrocarburizing to further improve corrosion resistance. This involves applying a thin oxide layer, often consisting of Fe3O4, to the nitrocarburized surface, resulting in a black or dark gray appearance.
Why choose Gas Nitrocarburizing & Oxidation?
Controlled Surface Hardening
Our precisely controlled gas atmosphere ensures uniform nitrogen and carbon diffusion, resulting in consistent surface hardness across every component.
Superior Corrosion Protection
The optional post-oxidation treatment forms a durable Fe₃O₄ oxide layer that greatly enhances corrosion resistance while producing an attractive black finish.
Minimal Dimensional Distortion
Since the process is performed below the critical transformation temperature, components maintain their original dimensions and mechanical integrity.
Dimensional accuracy
Improved wear resistance, fatigue strength, and anti-scuffing performance significantly increase the operational lifespan of critical engineering components.
